7 Amazing Women Over Age 65

By Ted Holmgren, 9:00 am on April 24, 2017

Many older adults are choosing to age in place, and some need a helping hand to continue living at home safely and comfortably. Luckily, there is professional senior care Chandler seniors can trust and rely on.

However, for many senior citizens over the age of 65, age is simply a number having little significance. Around the world, many older adults are proving that living a vibrant life has no age boundary. Here are 7 amazing senior women and their accomplishments.

1. Doris Long

Doris Long, who is currently 101 years old, claims fear has never plagued her life. When she was 85, she became interested in abseiling. By the time she was 100, she abseiled down the side of a 310-foot building in London. She recently descended down the 560-foot tall Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. Long donates the proceeds from her events to local hospice organizations.

2. Lynn Ruth Miller

Miller became interested in stand-up comedy at the age of 71. In 2008, she entered the America’s Got Talent competition, and she went on to win the 2009 People’s Choice Award in the Branson Comedy Festival. Miller has also competed in the Bill Word’s Funniest Female Contest, the International Comedy competition, Britain’s Got Talent, and the Texas Burlesque Festival. At 85, she continues to entertain audiences around the world.

3. Sister Madonna Buder

Buder has been a nun for more than five decades. More than 30 years ago, she began running. After training, she entered various competitions. In 2012, Buder became the oldest athlete to complete the Ironman Triathlon at the age of 82. To date, she has finished 40 marathons and 34 Ironman triathlons. While running, she spends time conversing with God.

4. Jacquie Tajah Murdock

Murdock started dancing at the age of five, and she turned professional at 19. Her beauty and grace endured into her senior years. At the age of 80, photographers encouraged her to model. Two years later, she was featured in French designer Lanvin’s fall campaign.

5. Lynda Fox

At the age of 62, Fox started riding horses. She was particularly interested in the sport of dressage. Five years later, Fox began riding in competitions, and her elegant riding technique showcased her athleticism.

6. Gerthy Baars

At the age of 62, Baars developed an interest in kite surfing. After three days of instruction, she was able to remain standing on the board. Within six months, she was surfing like a pro. According to Baars, she took up the challenging sport because “all girls should get out and do their thing.” At the age of 65, she surfed the waters of three continents. However, Brazil, Cape Town, and Tarifa remain her favorite surfing locations.

7. Svetlana Tyukova

Ten years ago, 30 women between the ages of 55 and 80 created the Siberian Federation Yoshinkan Aikido group and began taking lessons. Tyukova was one of them. Today, 15 of the original members continue practicing this martial art form, including 79-year-old Tyukova. Nicknamed the Siberian Grandmothers Fight Club, these women believe their generation needs to rethink getting older and enhancing their health.

These senior women should serve as an inspiration for older adults. However, some seniors prefer staying at home rather than pursuing outdoor adventures.
